Job Description
We are seeking an academically credentialed, experienced Subject
Matter Expert (SME) with expertise to develop the following new finance/accounting courses, for our new Master of Science in Healthcare
degree program.
MHM 505 Managerial Accounting for Healthcare Professionals
The course objective is to offer today's healthcare managers effective tools to use comparatively when considering alternative
strategies and making decisions. This is the insider's perspective to keeping an entity competitive. Traditional cost behavior concepts,
cost-volume-profit (CVP) analysis, and product costing are updated with real world examples and decision cases. New measures for relevant
costs and reflective performance reports are prepared with reporting alternatives by healthcare sector, with transfer pricing and ending
with an overall balanced scorecard. Ethical dilemmas within the context of measurement and decision situations also receive extensive
coverage.
MHM 525 Healthcare Finance and Reimbursement
This course provides an
introduction to the management of funds within a health services organization. This course presents basic financial management concepts by
providing students with the evaluation tools and assessment skills used to support the financial viability of a health care organization.
Areas of focus include budgeting, the effective review of financial statements, with comparative relevance to the Profit and Loss Statement,
knowledgeable preparation of financial reports, the overall management of fee generating services, and a review of cost allocation methods
applied within modern health care facilities.
MHM 560 Advanced Healthcare Financial Management
This course is an
advanced seminar that examines financial concepts used to inform the healthcare manager throughout the decision-making processes. Primary
concepts covered in the course include: cost of capital (relative to the expected return on investment), capital structure analysis,
valuation of the organization, as well as mergers and acquisitions.
The SME works on a virtual team consisting of a member of NECB's eLearning department and the Academic Program Chair in new course development and the ongoing revision of existing courses in graduate degree programs. The SME creates original, high-quality content for our online courses by leveraging his/her experience and knowledge of their field. Typically, the content development process for our courses takes 10-12 weeks. This is a contract position, and the compensation is based upon subject matter expertise and credentialing. Ideally, the SME would teach the pilot run of the course, as well (and would be compensated, separately, for doing so).
A sample of responsibilities for our SMEs includes:
- Producing original instructional materials for online learning including:
o narrated, recorded lectures (audio over dynamic PPT or video)
o engaging, debatable discussion board questions
o detailed, creative assignments (simulations, case studies, presentations, research or reflection papers, group projects, ePortfolios, etc.)
o quizzes/exams
- Sourcing high-quality resources for instruction from our eLibrary
- Sourcing high-quality resources from Professional Associations associated with the subject
- Sourcing credible, high-quality resources from the Internet to supplement original course materials (videos, podcasts, simulations, websites, etc.)
- Delivering content using the appropriate templates
- Delivering the content in a timely manner
- Participating in regular (1X/week) review sessions (via phone or webinar) with an instructional designer and Academic Program Chair
- Being an available resource throughout the entire course development process
- A terminal degree in the field of Finance, Accounting, Healthcare or a related area is generally required to develop courses for the MHM, however individuals with advanced graduate or doctoral-level course work or specialized, high-level professional certifications or expertise will also be considered.
- Experience in healthcare finance or accounting is strongly preferred for development of these courses as is specialized certifications in finance, compliance, legal studies and related fields
- Online teaching experience is strongly preferred as is previous SME experience.
- Excellent written, oral, interpersonal skills are required
- Evidence of creativity, attention to detail, and collaborative approaches to work is essential
- Familiarity with adult learning theory, instructional design, and technology-mediated learning is a plus
