American Chemical Society National Meeting & Exposition

WHAT: A conference that the news media has termed the "World Series of Science," featuring topics ranging from chemistry's role in establishing the innocence of people wrongly convicted of murder to a spray-on coating to keep America's favorite fresh fruit (that's the banana) from ripening so quickly.

WHERE: The Pennsylvania Convention Center and downtown hotels in Philadelphia, Pa.

WHEN: Aug. 19-23, 2012

WHY: To join an estimated 14,000 scientists and others for on-the-spot access to a bonanza of spot news, features and background from 8,600 reports on new advances in science and other topics.

WASHINGTON, July 30, 2012 ? That's the 244th National Meeting & Exposition of the American Chemical Society (ACS), the world's largest scientific society, and journalists are invited to attend by pre-registering for the ACS Press Center or accessing an abundance of press releases and online press conferences for coverage from their home space.

Advance press registration and housing reservations are open, onsite registration is always welcome and the press package with almost 50 press releases and 30 press conferences is in the final stages of preparation for the embargoed sites on EurekAlert! and Newswise. Reporters planning to cover the meeting from their home bases will have access to the press conferences over the Internet in the popular ACS "Live Chat" format.

The ACS Office of Public Affairs will operate a press center in the convention center. It will include a press conference room fully equipped for TV camera crews and HD video, as well as a news media workroom that is fully staffed to assist in arranging interviews. The press center will have wireless Internet access, telephones, computers, photocopy and fax services and refreshments.
